THE IRANIAN REVOLUTION: THIRTY YEARS

A CONFERENCE AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY, FEBRUARY 7-8, 2009

CALL FOR PAPERS DEADLINE – OCTOBER 15, 2008

The Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Rutgers University is pleased to announce the conference "The Iranian Revolution: Thirty Years", to be held at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on the weekend of 7-8th February 2009.

February 2009 will mark the passing of thirty years since the Iranian Revolution. This conference will aim to investigate the impact the revolution has had during the last three decades on Iranians, whether living inside Iran or in the diaspora, as well as on other nations in the Middle East and the wider Muslim world. To this end, we invite panel proposals and abstracts for individual papers on any relevant topic, but especially the following:

· The changing face of politics and religion in post-revolutionary Iran

· The significance of the revolution beyond Iran

· Developments in the arts and media in Iran since the revolution

· The changing experiences of Iranians in the diaspora since the revolution

· The impact of the revolution on Iran's international relations and economy

· The changing experiences of women and minorities in Iran since the revolution

· Academic approaches to understanding the Iranian Revolution

· Teaching about Iran since the revolution

Abstracts should be no longer than 250 words (one page) and should be accompanied by a brief biography. Proposals for pre-organized panels should include a panel abstract of no more than 250 words in addition to the individual paper abstracts and biographies for each of the panelists. The deadline for submission of panel proposals and abstracts is October 15, 2008.
