We have digitised as scans and backlights a sample of the rich collection of Arabic texts held by the Library of the University of Leeds, and its Special Collections.
We have scanned comprehensively at high resolution to reveal of the text, paper texture and manufacture, and watermarks. We believe this product will be of interest to papyrologists, arabists, digital archivists and others.
The Leeds project is interested in developing techniques to examine the watermark in such documents, together with other concealed properties of the paper.
Texts currently available are
The "Mahdiyya" Qur'an
The "West African" copy of the Qur'ān
Durrat ‘iqd al-naḥr fī ‘asrār ḥizb al-baḥr: A prayer book of uncertain date, probably 18th century.
