'Bab'Aziz: The Prince Who Contemplated His Soul," is next up in the film series at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art.
The film, directed by Tunisian filmmaker Nacer Khemir, tells the story of a dervish and his granddaughter on their way to a meeting of dervishes that takes place in the desert every 30 years. To pass the time, the Bab'Aziz, played by Parviz Shahinkhou, tells Ishtar (Maryam Hamid), about a young prince who, like Narcissus, stares at his reflection in a pool of water and ignores his kingdom.
The film is largely shot in Iran and shows the rugged beauty of the country. It screens tonight, Friday and Saturday at 7:30 and Sunday at 2 p.m. Susan Dunne, who writes about film for The Courant, will introduce the movie tonight. The film is 98 minutes, in Arabic and Persian with subtitles. It is unrated.
The Atheneum's Aetna Theater is at 600 Main St., Hartford. Admission is $9, $8 for seniors and students, $7 for members, $3.50 for Film Buffs, free for Film Stars. For details, visit 860-838-4142 or wadsworthatheneum.org.
