Istanbul, August 1 (BTA exclusive by Nahide Deniz) - The Union of Bulgarian Writers (UBW) and the Union of Turkish Writers have agreed to cooperate during a visit to Istanbul by a UBW delegation headed by the Union's Chairman Nikolai Petev.
The two unions set the beginning of a joint project, the first of its kind, for the publication of an anthology of Bulgarian poetry and short stories in Turkish and of an anothology of Turkish poetry and short stories in Bulgarian. Each Union will select works for inclusion according to its own criteria.
The project will be implemented with the support of the Turkish Embassy in Sofia and of Turkey's Consul General in Bourgas Ismail Sefa Ucer, and the financing will be provided by the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Petev told BTA that this project will pave the way for the publication of more works by Bulgarian authors in Turkey and by Turkish authors in Bulgaria.
"Turkey is not the only neighbouring country where Bulgarian literature is unfamiliar. Few Bulgarian books have been published in Macedonia and Serbia, too. In recent years the UBW has been working to fill this gap," Peter said, expressing satisifaction that his Turkish colleagues are sharing this wish. PK/LG
